Engagement Date: 1/6/2011
Wedding Date: TBA

Josh and I had met our junior year while attending West Chester University. Thanks to a couple of my girlfriends, who were dating his roommates at the time, Josh and I began dating shortly after.

A few days before Josh proposed, I had received a text message at work. I’m a second grade teacher, and on Friday I had checked my phone at lunch. I received a text message from him saying that he hoped I was having a good day and he was really in the mood for a crab cake sandwich (not shocking or suspicious, he loves crab cakes). That night we had agreed that we would go get crab cakes and crab legs (which are one of my favorites) on Sunday because I did not have to work on Monday. He said he really wanted to go to Woody’s Crab House in Maryland, which is only a 45 minute drive from where we live. Still didn’t think anything of it, I figured why not, I don’t have to work on Monday, let’s take a road trip.

Woody’s Crab House had white lights around the outside and inside of the restaurant, and looked beautiful with snow on the ground. While we were eating he had mentioned that maybe we should go walk around or do something while we were down there. We checked our phones for close attractions and found a light house on the bay. While we were driving I was thinking “Could this be it?” Josh doesn’t normally want to go look at light houses or attractions of that sort, so I thought maybe.

To my surprise, there was a cannon near the light house that had been used in the war of 1812. My fiancée is a huge history fan (he earned his history teaching degree at West Chester University) and I thought okay, not suspicious anymore. As we were reading about the history of the cannon, I got up to check my phone.  As I turned my back to him I heard him say, “Lauren.” As I turned around, there he was still kneeling on the ground with the little yellow Benari box opened displaying my beautiful ring. As he said the words “Will you marry me?” My eyes immediately began to tear up and I of course said “YES!” We still have to set a date, but the wedding will probably be within the next year and a half to two years. We will be back at Benari to pick out our wedding bands!
Thank you Mark and Barry!
