All I knew was that we were going to dinner. But with Dominick, the love of my life, things are never that simple. There’s always a surprise on top of a surprise on top of a surprise….

As I went to the front door, Dominick was standing there looking perfect in a black suit holding a dozen roses. Behind him was a stretched Dodge Charger, my favorite car, and a limousine driver holding a custom-made nylon banner that read “Only You! Shelly and Nicky’s Prom” with the date underneath the title. My heart began to melt because I never went to my prom in high school and I realized that Dominick, Nicky, was going to put a special night together. I just didn’t know how special just yet.

The limo took us to the Duling Kurtz House in Exton where we shared a fabulous meal. Dominick seemed very nervous and my heart began to flutter because I now had a feeling where the night was going. I now expected that somewhere during this magical night my soulmate was going to surprise me with a ring.

When we were back in the limo after dinner, Dominick told me he had a special gift for me that he made. He handed me a silver bag and when I pulled out the gift, I began to cry! He made me a photobook of our time together in a storybook format with his own words telling the story. It was SO BEAUTIFUL!! When I got to the last page, it was blank, and a note was inserted. It explained that the blank page represented our future, that it was yet to be written, that it could be anything we wanted it to be. It said that this now closed chapter one of our life together and that he wanted to start chapter 2 with a very important question. He then got down on one knee, took out the most breathtaking ring I have ever seen and asked me to marry him. Through my teary eyes I was able to say “YES” and embraced him!

But like I said, there’s always one more surprise. The limo took us to Sunnybrook Ballroom where a group of our friends and family were waiting for us to surprise me for the “prom”! The DJ stopped the music, announced our arrival and that we were engaged. The entire place gave us a standing ovation and we shared a special dance in the middle of the floor. It was the most romantic night of my life and as always he exceeded all of my wildest dreams. He’s my best friend, and I know that he always will be.
