It has been almost a year since we first met. The last Saturday in January 2008 was our first date. We were at Mount Vernon, the home of George and Martha Washington.

Mount Vernon would be our first adventure together, the first of many. We talked, the usual first date topics, as we entered the first building on the tour. Our tour guide began by telling us what to expect over the next few hours but one thing he said foreshadowed everything since. “Once inside the house, quarters will begin to get tight, especially upstairs.” He explained. “You will have to get close to those in the tour group. Though don’t be concerned. Many people have made new friends here at Mount Vernon. You may even meet your future spouse.” At that moment we both looked at each other and wondered…”Could this be the one?”

With the sun slowly setting, our first date came to a close. And as it has always been said, it’s all in the first kiss.

Well, we were hooked!

What began at Mount Vernon and hallmarked by the truest remark ever made by a tour guide, continues to unfold. Our engagement makes way to our wedding plans and onward to a long happily ever after. Each day we awake and look forward to whatever remains to be discovered. And whatever that may be, we both know it’ll be better because we’re together.
